Creme de la Creme

December 7, 2010

So I wasn’t going to submit anything b/c it’s been a lean year for me, blogging wise, and I didn’t think I had anything.  Except an embarrassment of riches.  But I read this post and changed my mind, and submitted something.

You should too.

Pseudonyms

December 1, 2010

So, in honor of my blog turning 4 years old, I’m going to start using pseudonyms instead of initials, because it seemed fun to pick out fake names 🙂  My husband T, occasionally referred to as the Bear, will be Gimli (Lord of the Rings reference); our 2.5-year-old daughter V. will be called Illyria, the ancient name of the country we are currently living in; and our tadpole G. (5 months next week) will be Oscar, or Oz for short.  That was what I wanted to name him anyway.  And since this is just for fun I’ll give them middle names too – how about Illyria Shenandoah and Oscar Spike?  Gimli’s middle name will be Sue (for “A Boy Named Sue” cause in real life he complains that he has a girl’s name).

Toda the kids are tag-teaming naps and it’s raining – again – so it’s feeling like a really long day.  Gimli is away on a work trip all week so it’s been feeling like a long week.  On the bright side, today is hump day, and it’s halfway over.  Usually the second half and especially the last 1/3 of anything go the fastest, in my experience.

Sleep training is underway for Oscar and I think it’s going well.  The Baby Whisperer method seems to take a little longer than traditional CIO but we’re on Day 4 and I see a lot of progress.  Although his morning naps have fallen apart, and I don’t know why.  I’m hoping he’s in transition from the 4-5 short naps he was taking every day to 2 long naps, but honestly it’s just been really sporadic and inconsistent.  Well, I’ll try not to get started down that road or I’ll never shut up.  Right now Illyria is sleeping and Oscar is wiiiide awake and I’m in desperate need of a nap.  Oh well.  Maybe tomorrow.

p.s. can’t think of a good pseudonym for myself, so guess I’ll stick with what I’ve got 🙂

Thank you, Wordgirl, inexpressably, for writing this:

“I realized that waking up every day was my life’s work. Being in the moment, in the life I was living, using the voice I’ve been given in what small ways I can use it — if I remember the idea of Conversations with God it was that God is in us. That God experiences life through us — that in our light and in our darkness — that it is part of it all.”

Thank you.

Read her whole post here – it’s worth it.
